The Island of Guernsey is situated only 80 miles from the South Coast of England and 30 miles from France. The unique atmosphere inspired Renoir and Victor Hugo. The Festival will take place at La Villette Hotel, situated in the parish of St Martin, close to the south coast cliffs and on a main 'bus route.

Amateur or Non-Commercial?

We are still here. For many years we called our competition the Guernsey Lily Amateur Film Festival but there has been growing pressure to change the word "amateur" to "non-commercial".

We, our regular entrants and delegates know that we meant the word "amateur" in the classical sense of someone who makes short films for love rather than for money. However to many people "amateur" is synonymous with "amateurish" suggesting poor movies. Far from it! We are proud that the festival has had so many fine winners, films and videos from all over the world which deserved their prizes and trophies. Take a look at last year's winners.

To help those coming across us for the first time we dropped "amateur" and adopted "non-commercial". We still mean films or videos made for the pleasure of doing so and without thought of making money. We still look forward to seeing your entries whether you describe yourself as "amateur", "non-commercial" or anything else.
